Screen time limits? What’s next, reading BOOKS?!
What Happened
Several states across the U.S., along with the Los Angeles public school system, are implementing new policies and guidelines to limit screen time for students and children. These measures aim to address concerns about digital well-being and the potential negative impacts of excessive screen use.
Our Take
Alright, alright, settle down, screen addicts! I know what you’re thinking: ‘Screen time limits? What is this, the stone age? Are we going to have to, gasp, TALK to each other?’ I saw this headline and I swear, I almost dropped my phone. Which, ironically, would have been a screen time limit I didn’t ask for. But seriously, several states and even the LA public schools are clamping down. I picture a scene out of a dystopian sci-fi movie, but instead of fighting against ‘The System,’ these kids are fighting for their right to watch another cat video. Can you imagine the withdrawal symptoms? Little Timmy, twitching in the corner, trying to remember what a ‘book’ is. Sarah, fashioning a makeshift VR headset out of a cereal box, muttering about ‘lag’ and ‘ping.’ And the teachers? Oh, the poor teachers. They’re already dealing with ‘why is the sky blue?’ and ‘can I go to the bathroom for the fifth time?’ Now they have to be the Screen Time Police. I bet they’re just thrilled. Their lesson plans used to be about math and science, now it’s ‘How to Cope with Not Having a Screen Glued to Your Face: A Survival Guide.’ I can already see the future headlines: ‘Local Child Discovers ‘Outside,’ Shocked by Sun.’ Or ‘Teenager Attempts to Swipe Right on a Cabbage, Fails.’ It’s going to be a wild ride, folks. So next time you see a kid staring blankly into space, don’t assume they’re deep in thought. They’re probably just mentally scrolling through their TikTok feed, desperately trying to remember what a ‘reel’ looks like. Good luck out there, you digital pioneers! May your imaginations be as endless as your previously-unlimited screen time.
